Panvel’s Rs 3873 Crore budget to boost livability via focus on Social & Infra initiatives

The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced a groundbreaking budget of Rs. 3878 crore , focusing on urban infrastructure and public welfare. The budget, presented by PMC Commissioner Mangesh Chitale, aims to improve livability in Panvel without introducing new taxes. Transformative Investments in Solid Waste Management and Healthcare

The Panvel Municipal Corporation’s commitment to improving urban infrastructure is evident in its allocation of Rs. 2.21 billion specifically for solid waste management. This investment aims to enhance the efficiency of waste collection, transportation, and workforce management, which are essential for maintaining a clean environment. A notable portion of this budget, Rs. 113 million, is earmarked for acquiring mega sweeping machines to bolster the city’s cleanliness efforts. Furthermore, the partnership with CIDCO will see Rs. 100 million allocated to a Waste-to-Energy project, promoting sustainability by converting waste into usable energy.

Healthcare initiatives also receive a significant boost, with Rs. 126 crore directed towards medical facilities. This includes Rs. 175 million for constructing a 450-bed mother and child care hospital, addressing critical healthcare needs. An additional Rs. 10 crore is allocated for a 50-bed hospital in Kalamboli, enhancing healthcare accessibility in the region. Urban Primary Health Centers (UPHCs) are also under construction in Kalundre, New Panvel, and Kharghar, ensuring comprehensive healthcare services across the city.

Enhancements in Fire Safety, Education, and Security

In a bid to strengthen fire safety and emergency services, the PMC has allocated Rs. 390 million for acquiring modern equipment. This includes an advanced fire engine, an emergency rescue tender, and a 22-meter turntable ladder vehicle to improve response capabilities in emergencies. Additionally, Rs. 735 million is allocated for a water bowser, while Rs. 170 million will go towards constructing a new fire station in Kamothe, ensuring swift emergency response across the city.

The budget also addresses crucial infrastructure needs in drainage and education. With Rs. 1.78 billion dedicated to underground drainage and sewage management, including Rs. 400 million for a 15 MLD wastewater recycling plant and Rs. 254.9 million for a 6.5 MLD sewage treatment center, the city aims to mitigate flooding and improve sanitation.

Educational infrastructure will benefit from grants for new school buildings, with Rs. 830 million allocated for upgrading municipal schools, teacher salaries, and skill development programs. Security enhancements are also prioritized, with Rs. 1.07 billion set aside for a citywide CCTV surveillance system, fostering a safer environment for residents.
