Patna is also one of the cities engaged in the Smart Cities Mission. The Government of India commenced the Smart Cities Mission on June 25, 2015, with the purpose of developing the country. Smart City Patna was started with the aim of focusing on water, electricity, decongestion of the city, and improving infrastructure and transportation within the city. The state government launched many pan-city projects to bring prominent changes.

Patna Smart City Objectives

The Government of Patna has delineated what they wish to achieve by entering into the Smart Cities Mission. Apart from the base-level modification in the city, they have introduced several projects to ensure that the desired changes are implemented. The objectives of Smart City Patna’s mission are as mentioned below. 

Aadharbhut

Under Aadharbhut, the aim is to build resilient infrastructure in the city. This covers issues like availability of water, sustainable use of water, tackling the problem of open defecation, betterment of public health facilities and proactive disaster management steps. 

Visankulan and Gatisheel Patna

The government aims to reduce congestion in the city. For this, the government is working towards promoting mixed land use, improving public transport facilities to reduce the use of personal vehicles, and increasing the average speed of the city by establishing better roads and parking systems. 

Jan-Kshetra

Jan-Kshetra focuses on making the city walkable and bettering the city’s heritage and other buildings. The government aims to make the city more functional in terms of city recreational and heritage sites. The authorities are working towards retrofitting old government and commercial buildings. All heritage sites will be catered to increase the public’s attention towards them. 

Vaishvik

The government wishes to establish tertiary industries, and designate spaces for street vendors and other institutions, to save by making smart and sustainable choices for development and protecting resources for future use. 

Samagra Vikas

Under the Samagra Vikas goal, the government wishes to eradicate slums through Rain Baseras, cleaning and maintenance of drains, setting up institutions to ensure the attendance of girls in school and distribution of leftover food from restaurants to orphanages, short-stay homes, Rain Baseras to mitigate hunger. 

Patna Smart City Projects

To achieve the goal of becoming one of India’s Smart Cities, the government introduced projects which were divided into area-based projects and pan-city projects. The objectives of all such projects are given below. 

Pan City Project

Name of the Project Objectives
Integrated Control and Command Centre To establish the office of Patna Smart City to monitor the growth and development of projects taking place across the city. The integrated control and command centre is going to be a sustainable building- with designated departments like water, sewage, etc. the top floor will be the Patna Smart City Office. 
Intelligent Solid Waste Management Project To be announced. 
Jan Seva Kendra To be announced.

Area-Based Development

Name of the Project Objectives
Mega Screen at Gandhi Maidan To provide cinema experience to people from all walks of life. To protect the traditional ways of watching cinema in the age of OTT, by curating a unique experience of ‘cinema under the stars’ for the citizens. 
Redevelopment of Mandiri Nala To remove encroachment of land, improve the sanitary conditions of the area, cleanliness and maintenance of the drain, add footpaths and create a tow lane road. 
Adalat Ganj Lake Redevelopment To provide open green spaces for the citizens, proper landscaping to avoid nitrate leaching and revenue collection through a ticket system to access the lake. 
Intermediate Public Transport Stand
Infrastructure Development of Schools The aim is to promote education and increase the school attendance of students. The schools have all the modern facilities and qualified teachers to educate the children. Since education is the first step towards development, the establishment of schools is vital. 
Rejuvenation of Veerchand Patel Path To construct footpaths for the safety of the public, landscaping for cleaner air and city and improve the condition of the roads.
