The Pink Line of the Delhi Metro has been officially inaugurated and will run between Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus and Majlis Park. As per reports, the Phase-IV of this project may be cleared by the Government soon enough. The delay is reportedly due to the non-viability of some of the routes from a financial perspective. The newly opened line comes with 12 stations and is a part of the Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar corridor which is 59 kilometres long. This is the Phase-III of the Delhi Metro.

A small portion of this Pink Line in East Delhi’s Trilokpuri zone is also waiting to get requisite clearance on account of issues linked to land and associated matters where the local individuals are involved. The traveling time between Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus and Majlis Park will be 34 minutes and the cost will be Rs. 40. The Delhi Metro’s network will increase soon to 252 kilometres with the addition of this new line.

The stretch comprises of stations like Majlis Park, Shalimar Bagh, Azadpur, Shakurpur, Netaji Subhash Place, ESI Hospital, Punjabi Bagh West, Naraina Vihar, Rajouri Garden, Delhi Cantonment, Mayapuri and Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus. The Azadpur Station which intersects the Yellow Line is one of the three key interchange stations falling on the Pink line route. The two other stations are Rajouri Garden and Netaji Subhash Place which intersect the Blue Line and Red Line respectively.

The delay over the project has reportedly led to an escalation in project costs for Phase IV to the tune of Rs. 12, 000 crore. The costs have also increased by Rs. 1, 000 crore due to the Delhi-Meerut Rapid Rail Transit project. The Delhi Government’s in-principle nod has reportedly been given to the Phase-IV of the metro railway project. Things should certainly speed up now. The opening of the Pink Line should certainly boost real estate markets along this entire stretch.
