Cabinet Committee Approves Rs 17.50 Billion Investment for Tato-I Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a significant investment of Rs 17.50 billion for the Tato-I Hydro Electric Project (HEP) in Arunachal Pradesh’s Shi Yomi district. This development aims to bolster the electricity supply in the region and contribute to the stabilization of the national grid.
Enhanced Electricity Supply in Arunachal Pradesh
The Tato-I Hydro Electric Project is set to be completed within a span of 50 months and will have a total capacity of 186 MW, divided into three units of 62 MW each. Once operational, the project is expected to generate 802 Million Units (MU) of energy annually.
The collaboration between the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh will oversee the successful execution of this ambitious initiative. To support the infrastructure requirements, the Government of India will allocate Rs 770.37 million, which will be utilized for the development of roads, bridges, and transmission lines.
Benefits for the State
In addition to the energy boost, the Tato-I Hydro Electric Project will bring several positive outcomes to Arunachal Pradesh. The state will enjoy 12% of the generated power for free, along with an additional 1% designated for the Local Area Development Fund (LADF). This allocation will facilitate infrastructural improvements and enhance the socio-economic conditions of the region.
Under the initiative, approximately 10 kilometers of roads and bridges will be constructed to cater primarily to the local population. This development will ensure better connectivity and accessibility within the district. Furthermore, essential facilities such as hospitals, schools, vocational training institutes like Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), marketplaces, and playgrounds will be established, with a designated budget of Rs 150 million.
Empowering the Local Community
The Tato-I Hydro Electric Project is designed to improve the livelihoods of the local community through various provisions. Compensation packages, employment opportunities, and benefits from corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities will be extended to the people residing in the project area.
This holistic approach reflects the project’s commitment to providing not only electricity but also long-term sustainable development for the region. By investing in both infrastructure and human capital, the Tato I HEP sets a commendable example for inclusive growth and progress.
In closing, the Cabinet Committee’s approval of the Rs 17.50 billion investment for the Tato-I Hydro Electric Project underscores the government’s steadfast commitment to harnessing the potential of hydropower and uplifting the lives of the people in Arunachal Pradesh. Through this ambitious endeavor, the state can look forward to a brighter and more prosperous future.
