Tato-I Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh Receives Rs 17.5 Billion Investment
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a significant investment of Rs 17.5 billion for the Tato-I Hydro Electric Project (HEP) in Arunachal Pradesh’s Shi Yomi district. This project, which is a joint venture between the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd. (NEEPCO) and the Arunachal Pradesh government, aims to bolster the power supply in the state and enhance the stability of the national grid.
Enhancing Power Supply and Energy Generation
With an impressive installed capacity of 186 MW, the Tato-I Hydro Electric Project is set to generate 802 million units (MU) of energy on an annual basis. This substantial energy creation will benefit both the state of Arunachal Pradesh and contribute to the stability of the national grid. The completion of this project is expected within a span of 50 months.
Investing in Infrastructure and Financial Assistance
The government has allocated a commendable amount of Rs 773.7 million to develop important enabling infrastructure, including the construction of roads and transmission lines, supporting the effective execution of the Tato-I Hydro Electric Project. Additionally, to support the state’s equity share in the venture, the Arunachal Pradesh government will receive central financial assistance of Rs 1.20 billion.
Fostering Socio-Economic Development in Arunachal Pradesh
In an effort to boost socio-economic development in the region, the Tato-I Hydro Electric Project will allocate 12% of the generated power as free electricity to Arunachal Pradesh. Moreover, an additional 1% will be allocated to a Local Area Development Fund (LADF). These initiatives aim to fund local infrastructure projects, such as the construction of roads, schools, hospitals, and marketplaces, signaling significant advancements in the region’s socio-economic standing. To support these initiatives and contribute to the welfare of the community, a dedicated fund of Rs 150 million will be assigned along with support from corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs.
Creating Employment Opportunities and Enhancing Connectivity
The Tato-I Hydro Electric Project is set to create local employment opportunities, helping to stimulate economic growth and empower the population of Arunachal Pradesh. In addition to these employment prospects, the project will prioritize connectivity with the construction of approximately 10 kilometers of roads and bridges.
Reaffirming India’s Commitment to Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Development
The Tato-I Hydro Electric Project stands as a significant component of India’s renewable energy objectives. The venture highlights the Indian government’s dedication to robust infrastructure development and ensuring energy security, particularly in the northeastern states. This investment underscores the government’s continuous efforts to enhance the country’s renewable energy capabilities, power supply, and overall development.
