The Central government and the government of Himachal Pradesh have taken the initiative to provide aid to the citizens of Shimla as there is a water crisis. The new project is known as the Jal Jeevan Mission in Himachal Pradesh. The latest technologies will be used to facilitate the inhabitants of Shimla with 24/7 pressurized running water. The Central Public Health and Environment Engineering Organization (CPHEEO) has taken the initiative to improve the water supply services within the Shimla Municipal Corporation area. A technical wing of the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MHUA) has approved a 24/7 water supply project of INR 492 crore.

What did the State Urban Development Minister Suresh Bhardwaj Stated?

State Urban Development Minister Suresh Bhardwaj has said that this project is one of the key projects approved under the Shimla Water Supply and Sewerage Services Delivery Program to enhance the water supply in the Greater Shimla Areas. With the help of the world bank, the total financial outlay is about INR 1,825 crore.

In addition, he further said that out of the total amount of INR 1,825 crore, the World Bank would be providing the assistance of around INR 1,168 crore, and the state government will look after the remaining amount of INR 657 crore. The primary objective of the 24/7 water supply is to reduce the non-revenue water supply in Shimla via the introduction of energy-efficient technologies. Water distillation supply system and ensuring the water quality according to the Indian Government and the Government of Himachal Pradesh norms.

Chief Minister Calls on Union Minister

Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Jai Ram Thakur called on Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, New Delhi. Jai Ram Thakur also appraised him for the efforts made by the State Government for the Greenfield Airport at Mandi. He further requested for channelization of Suketi Khad in the area urgently to aid in the progress of BPR of the Airport. He also apprised him of the progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission in Himachal Pradesh.

Expected Finishing Date of Jal Jeevan Mission

The Minister added that the tender project has been initiated and will be completed by 2025. Post completion of this project, there will be a round-the-clock running pressurized water supply to the inhabitants of Shimla city. The targeted date is October 31st.
