Commercial and residential property owners in Cantonment are raising their concerns and appealing to the state government to reconsider the plan for the widening of the Secunderabad Club-Trimulgherry road to 200ft. They believe that this initiative may have negative implications for local businesses and longstanding properties in the area.
A Favorable Alternative Proposed by Property Owners: Proposing a potentially more viable solution, businessman V Amarnath suggests widening the road to a width of 100-110ft, while also making provisions for footpaths. Amarnath pointed out that many roads within the city effectively manage traffic flow despite being only 100ft wide. This alternative could help alleviate some of the concerns raised by property owners without compromising on the road capacity.
Seeking Public Consent and Overcoming Demol government to issue a public notice seeking their consent. K Subramanyam, a 90-year-old resident of Vikrampuri Colony in Karkhana, is one of the affected property owners. He owns a property that was constructed over five decades ago and falls within the boundaries outlined by SCB and defense officials. Subramanyam expressed concern thatm numerous properties will be demolished against the wishes of the owners.
Compensation And Support for Property Owners: Highlighting that the majority of property owners come from middle-class backgrounds and dutifully pay taxes to the Cantonment Board, Subramanyam emphasized the importance of providing compensation before initiating any demolition works. The property owners acknowledge the significance of the proposed six-lane elevated skyway and support its construction. However, they assert that fair compensation should be granted to those whose properties will be affected by the project. The appeal from Cantonment property owners to rethink the road widening plan and consider alternative options underscores the need for effective communication and collaboration between the government and its citizenry. Taking into account the concerns expressed by property owners, it is essential that the government seeks public consent and provides compensation to individuals whose properties will be impacted. Striking the right balance between infrastructure development and protecting the citizens’ interests is imperative for the progress and welfare of the entire community.
