Telangana Chief Minister Urges Officials for Detailed Report on Metro Rail Connectivity
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has recently instructed government officials to prepare a detailed report on the metro rail connectivity between Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and the ‘future city’ being planned on the outskirts of Hyderabad. It was during a meeting on Musi Riverfront Development and the Hyderabad Metro that Reddy emphasized the need to expedite the expansion of the metro rail, especially through the old city of Hyderabad.
The chief minister highlighted the importance of addressing challenges associated with the metro rail expansion, particularly those related to land acquisition. Seeking a swift resolution, he emphasized the need for the Detailed Project Report (DPR) to be ready before the Dussehra festival in October for submission to the central government.
Addressing Illegal Settlements and Protecting Water Bodies
Apart from the metro rail connectivity, Reddy also requested officials to provide information on inhabitants of illegal settlements near lakes, drains, and the Musi River. This data would enable the government to allocate double-bedroom houses for eligible individuals and ensure that no deserving person is left homeless.
To protect the lakes from encroachment, the chief minister suggested installing CCTV cameras at all lakes in the city, with live feeds connected to the police Command Control Centre. This move aims to enhance surveillance and deter any unauthorized activities near the water bodies. Furthermore, Reddy directed officials to clearly identify the Full Tank Level and Buffer Zones of lakes and other bodies of water within the Outer Ring Road (ORR).
The Establishment of HYDRA and the ‘Fourth City’
In order to oversee these efforts, the state government recently established the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRA). This agency will play a crucial role in coordinating disaster response and safeguarding important infrastructure assets.
Previously, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced the development of a ‘fourth city’ that will follow the succession of Hyderabad, Secunderabad, and Cyberabad. This upcoming ‘future city’ will be located in Mucharla, on the outskirts of Hyderabad. The spacious and well-planned Mucharla will feature prominent hubs, including artificial intelligence, health tourism, and sports, all built on a large scale.
Progress and Development in Telangana
With the directives from Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, the progress of metro rail connectivity and the safeguarding of water bodies indicate the government’s commitment to infrastructural growth and spatial development. The expansion of the metro rail system will open up new avenues for transportation and improve commuting within and near Hyderabad.
Furthermore, allocating housing for those eligible living near water bodies and protecting lakes from encroachments will ensure sustainable urban development and ecological preservation. With the establishment of HYDRA, Telangana is actively working towards a resilient and disaster-prepared infrastructure to enhance the safety and well-being of its citizens.
The ambitious plans for the ‘future city’ in Mucharla also signify Telangana’s pursuit of economic advancement and creating opportunities across sectors like technology, healthcare, and sports. As the state continues to prioritize development, these initiatives will shape a brighter future for Telangana and its citizens.
