After two decades of delay caused by farmers’ protests over land acquisition, the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has announced the resumption of the Indirapuram Extension project. The project will cover a land parcel of 30,000 square meters and aims to bring necessary infrastructural development to the area. However, a group of 225 farmers challenged the compensation in the Allahabad High Court, seeking higher rates.

These legal proceedings brought the project to a halt as possession of the land could not be obtained. Ultimately, financial constraints resulting from the Land Acquisition Act caused the GDA to shelve the project in 2019. However, a Supreme Court ruling on May 20, 2022, brought renewed hope for the revival of the Indirapuram Extension project. The ruling stated that land compensation issues initiated before the 2014 Act should adhere to the rates in effect at the time of acquisition, regardless of the acquisition status. This decision provided the necessary legal clearance for the GDA to proceed with the project.
