A lot of people don’t know this but Saif Ali Khan’s Pataudi palace is also referred to as Ibrahim Kothi. It is owned by the former ruling family, the Pataudi’s of Gurgaon (now Gurugram) district in Haryana, India. It was passed on to Saif’s father, Mansoor Ali Khan by the last ruling Nawab, Iftikhar Ali Khan (Saif Ali Khan’s grandfather). Currently, it is owned by Saif Ali Khan, who considers it his ancestral home and frequently visits it with his family.

The story of the Pataudi palace goes back to the early 1900s. When the Nawab of Pataudi and Begum of Bhopal got married, the Nawab felt that their family home wasn’t big enough for his newly wedded wife. He requested a new palace, a design that symbolized the colonial-era mansions of Imperial Delhi. It was designed by Robert Tor Russell, a well-known British architect with Austrian architect Au Molt von Heinz’s help.

The palace has also been used for shooting various Bollywood films including Veer Zara, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and Rang De Basanti.

Nawab Pataudi Palace – How Much Is It Worth?

Did you know Saif Ali Khan repossessed the Nawab Pataudi Palace in 2014?

According to him, Mansoor Ali Khan had leased out the palace to Neemrana Hotels (Aman Nath and Francis Wacziarg). From the year 2005 to 2014, they not only ran it as a luxury property but also took good care of it. He added, his mother Sharmila Tagore has a cottage there as well.

In 2014, however, Saif (present, house of Pataudi owner) got the opportunity to buy his ancestral home back. Spread across ten acres, it has 100+ rooms that comprise 7 dressing rooms, seven billiard rooms, 7 bedrooms and more.

It is believed that he paid off a whopping sum of Rs 800 crore to repossess it. When asked about the same in an interview, he explained that it is a matter of emotions for them. For him, the palace is priceless because his father and grandparents got buried here. He shares a spiritual connection with the palace as it brings a sense of serenity and security to him.

Taimur Ali Khan Pataudi Loves the Palace

In 2020, when the world was quarantined due to the global pandemic, the Pandemic family decided to quarantine at the palace. They spent more than a month at their ancestor’s home and made some great memories.

In an interview, Saif talked about the same and said his son Taimur Ali Khan had a blast at the palace. They did everything together from swimming and cooking to reading and playing games. The little bundle of joy, Taimur also fed biscuits to the squirrels every morning and bravely watched the black ants make their way to his arms.

Saif’s sister Soha Ali Khan and her husband Kunal Khemmu stayed at the Pataudi Palace in 2020 too.  The family of three, Soha, Kunal and daughter Inaaya had a blissful time.

Their ‘dream home’ is also in Bandra and is said to be an extension of their old home According to the couples’ interior designer and friend Darshini Shah, the new house is a mix of new and old. She disclosed that they were so attached and comfortable in their previous home that they just didn’t want to lose all of it. Understanding their sentiments, Darshini decided to give them the “best of both worlds”.

She was responsible for the redesigning of their ancestral home (Pataudi Palace) as well and is quite familiar with their taste & preferences. She made sure the new house fits the needs of the 2nd baby and also gives them, especially Kareena, a calming vibe.

The new house has a fabulous nursery along with a separate and bigger space for Taimur. Since Taimur is growing up, his requirements have increased too. Hence, the couple ensured their munchkin gets all he wants. There’s also a terrace, a large outdoor area, and a swimming pool at Saif and Kareena’s home. Not just for everyday living, it is a terrific party place too. A place that is perfect for get-togethers.

Describing the interiors, Darshini in an interview said that their home is everything you’d imagine a Bollywood couple’s home to be. It is classy, comfortable and luxurious. It meets the couple’s needs and has colonial-classic décor. She mentioned that Saif and Kareena requested her to make sure that the interior isn’t loud. Like their previous home, they wanted things to be subtle with a good mix of candles, antiques, a library and more.

Before moving, Saif shared some details about his new home. He shared that the renovation of their new home is keeping him busy. He said he has been hopping from his old house to the new one to check on the progress. Even his kids Ibrahim, Sara Ali Khan, and sister Soha come over and oversee the renovation sometimes.
