State-owned NTPC achieves milestone in coal production.

The state-owned National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) recently announced a significant achievement in coal production. NTPC announced that its coal mining subsidiary, NTPC Mining NML, had reached the milestone of crossing the 100 million tonne (MMT) mark of coal production from its captive mines. Starting from the commencement of coal production in its inaugural coal mine, Pakri Barwadih, on January 1, 2017, NTPC Mining NML successfully produced 100.04 MMT of coal. The company’s coal mining operations have played an essential role in advancing fuel security and maintaining an efficient supply chain for NTPC.

Rapid Achievement of Milestones

NTPC highlighted the two significant milestones reached along the way. The first 50 MMT of coal production were accomplished over a period of 1,995 days, with NTPC crossing the mark on June 19, 2022. The following 50 MMT of coal production were achieved in a much shorter timeframe of 617 days.

Efficiency of NTPC Mining Operations

The efficiency and productivity demonstrated by NTPC Mining NML showcase the company’s commitment to meeting coal demand effectively. Owning and operating five operational captive coal mines, namely Pakri Barwadih, Chatti Bariatu, Kerandari Coal Mines in Jharkhand, Dulanga Coal Mine in Odisha, and Talaipalli Coal Mine in Chhattisgarh, NTPC Mining has ensured a seamless supply of coal.

Aiming for Future Growth

NTPC Mining NML has a long-term goal of achieving 100 MMT of coal production per annum by 2030. By setting this ambitious target, NTPC aims to strengthen its position as the leading power generation company in the country, ensuring significant energy security for India.

Significance for Energy Security

NTPC’s achievement of surpassing the 100 MMT coal production mark demonstrates its commitment to fuel security. As the largest power generation company in India, NTPC recognizes the vital role that its captive coal mines play in ensuring a reliable and sufficient supply of coal for electricity generation.

Conclusion

NTPC Mining NML, the coal mining subsidiary of NTPC, has achieved a commendable milestone of producing 100 million tonnes of coal, highlighting its efficiency and commitment to fuel security. As NTPC sets its sights on further growth and targets an annual coal production of 100 MMT by 2030, the company solidifies its position in driving India’s energy security.
