Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 13 via video conferencing, the tent city became operational, and booking has already been started– said Abhishek Goyal, vice chairman of Varanasi Development Authority (VDA). An ensemble of luxury tents, it boasts four swiss cottages that can accommodate 200 people at a time.

Tent City Varanasi Background

Developed on the lines of Rann of Kutch in Gujarat and desert camps in Jaisalmer, the tent city bestows its guests with exhilarating views of river Ganga and its spiritual Ghats. Built-in the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode under the Varanasi Development Authority and two independent companies, Praveg Communications (India) Limited and Lalluji and Sons of Ahmedabad, the tent city has been constructed in two separate patches in a 30-hectare area. The site will be operational from October to June and will be dismantled in the rainy season of the year.

Bookings for the tent city started on January 14, 2023- marking the occasion of Makar Sankranti. The city encompasses 600 cottages featuring state-of-the-art amenities, including restaurants, gaming zone areas, banquet halls, conference centres, spa and yoga centres, a library, art galleries, adventure water sports, and cultural and other adrenaline sports activities. 

The high-end Ganga Darshan Villas will not only be river facing but also have a private beach, plunge pool, hall and many additional facilities,” Goyal ( vice-chairman of the VDA) stated.
