Earlier this November, the State Railway of Thailand launched train tours which pass through the Pa Sak Jolasid Dam in the Lopburi province to boost domestic tourism. The train runs on an elevated platform immediately above the water, giving the illusion of a ‘floating train” due to high water levels post-monsoon season.
The train starts from Hua Lamphong in Bangkok at 6 am and reaches the dam around 10:35 am. There is a 20-minute stop in between for the passengers to capture the serene scenery. When it arrives at the final destination, the passengers can walk around the dam and enjoy the gardens. The train departs at 3:30 pm and reaches Hua Lamphong at around 6:50 pm. The train runs only on the weekends, barring the weekend of December 31 and January 1. The floating train will function only on weekends between November and February. The train tickets have sold out till the New Year. The cost of air-conditioned travel is THB 560 (₹1276), and non-air-conditioned travel is THB 330 (₹752).

Low-economic countries like Thailand majorly depend upon tourism for their revenue. Thailand tourism also had an adverse impact due to Covid. The Thai government started the floating train concept to boost post-Covid domestic tourism. The floating train video circulating on the internet has successfully increased domestic tourism and has made its way to the bucket list of international travellers.
The tickets for the rot fai loi nam (train floating on water) can be booked online or on the mobile application of Thailand State Railways.
