The new railway station located between Mulund and Thane has now surpassed its obstacles and this development will ultimately provide relief to innumerable commuters in this belt. The development of this new railway station could also boost real estate markets in adjoining areas. Central Railway is now considering the development of a station that has a three-storeyed structure in addition to medical facilities, four escalators and an elevated deck.
This development comes after the State has given its assent for transferring a plot of 14 acres for building this new railway station. The station will be developed for Rs. 119 crore as per estimates and will also be linked to the nearest metro station as per reports. The daily footfalls in terms of passengers from the Mulund and Thane railway stations cumulatively touch 8.34 lakh people which is more than even the CST footfall at 3 lakh. Each day, 2.67 lakh and 1.05 lakh ticket bookings are received for the Thane and Mulund stations by the Central Railway.
There will be three platforms which will be 350 metres long with width of 10m, 12m and 7m each. Three 10 meter wide foot overbridges will link the platforms which will also have medical amenities on offer along with CCTV surveillance. To the east of the railway station, there will be the booking office and the route relay interlocking or RRI building will also be built for relaying signals to the local trains running through the station. The entire process should commence sometime later this year itself. The TMC (Thane Municipal Corporation) will be reconstructing the Kopri Bridge which runs to the east of the Thane station. People residing near the area will be rehabilitated and two overload pipeline bridges will also be shifted. The project has got approval under the Smart City initiative of the Central Government.
The new railway station will lower congestion immensely at Thane railway station which is forever crowded. The new railway station will boost real estate markets in Thane city and prices could appreciate by up to 15% as per experts. Commercial development is also expected in the area as a result of the new station. Real estate prices are expected to finally get a boost in Wagle Estate which is only 10 minutes away from the new railway station. Thane is already one of the hottest real estate markets in Mumbai with premium projects such as Dosti Group Landmark, Hiranandani Calvina and Vihang Valley Rio attracting several buyers.
