747 Wing House – Featured in the Show World’s Most Extraordinary Homes
As the name suggests, the show “World’s Most Extraordinary Homes” covers some of the most remarkable homes on Netflix. One of the most fascinating aspects of the show is the way architects have brought their visions alive. They push the architectural boundaries and create these beautiful structures.
The first episode of the show “Famous 747 Wing House” features a home built from a 747 Boeing plane. Located in Malibu, LA United States – the home is designed with rammed earth walls which are cut into the hillside, along with strong concrete walls that support the roof. The steel brace frame allows the roof to float above the rest of the structure. Moreover, there are self-supporting glass walls that offer spectacular views of Malibu.
The roof material of the house is obtained from retired planes, which is why, the architects were able to purchase the raw material aluminum at a fairly low price.
Dursley TreeHouse, United Kingdom – Featured in the Show Grand Designs
This treehouse is built from a screw foundation that does not disturb any tree roots or vegetation. It soars up to 40 feet into the tree canopy. All credit for building such a low impact treehouse goes to its architect. This treehouse has garnered great interest from onlookers all because of its low environmental impact. Millar + Howard Workshop together with a team of engineers worked on a concept designed from the trees that complement their texture, form, and patterns. The interior design of the structure plays with the cantilevering of elevated boxes, which are offset between the protected trees on the site. That’s not it, the house has a lightweight veranda that circles around the home and projects into the tree canopy, which makes a treehouse escape.
