Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to Boost Connectivity in Tripura
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has pledged to provide funds worth Rs 28 billion to enhance connectivity in the northeastern state of Tripura, according to an official statement. The announcement was made during a review meeting chaired by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, in New Delhi. Chief Minister Manik Saha, who also serves as the Minister of Public Works Department (PWD), was present at the meeting to discuss the development projects.
Projects to be Sanctioned
During the meeting, a total of eight projects were highlighted for approval by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Among the major projects, a sum of Rs 8 billion will be allocated for the construction of the Agartala Eastern Bypass. Additionally, Rs 15 billion has been earmarked for widening the Amtali to Tripura Sundari Temple road, while Rs 4 billion will be utilized for developing the road linking Ranirbazar to the inter-state bus terminus (ISBT). An extra Rs 1 billion has been allocated to the state through the Central Road Fund (CRF).
Focus on Enhancing Trade and Tourism
Furthermore, discussions were held regarding the establishment of a new National Highway from Kamalpur to Gandacherra, passing via Ambassa and Amarpur, with the aim of boosting international trade and enhancing tourism in the region. Additionally, there were talks about building a logistics park on the Eastern Bypass near Agartala, spanning across a vast area of 100 acres. This logistics park would not only facilitate trade and logistics operations but also contribute to the economic development of the state.
Restoration of National Highways and Flood-Related Damage
In light of the recent floods that have caused considerable damage to the existing National Highways, the Chief Minister discussed the urgent need for restoring these important road networks. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways was requested to provide the necessary funds for repairs and renovations.
