Uno Minda Ltd Announces Expansion Plans in Indonesia and India
Uno Minda Ltd, a leading automotive component manufacturer, has announced a significant investment of over Rs 610 crore to establish a new manufacturing facility in Indonesia. The company’s wholly-owned subsidiary, PT Minda Asean Automotive PTMA, has received additional orders for long tail lamps for passenger cars from original equipment manufacturers OEMs in Indonesia. In order to meet this growing demand, Uno Minda is taking proactive steps to expand its production capacity.
The new manufacturing facility in Indonesia is set to be operational by Q4 of FY26. This expansion will allow Uno Minda to diversify its product range and cater to the increasing demand for passenger car components. According to the company, once the new plant is commissioned, the existing plant will be relocated to the new site, resulting in consolidated operations and economies of scale. The estimated capital expenditure for the new plant is approximately ?210 crore.
In addition to its expansion plans in Indonesia, Uno Minda is also focusing on enhancing its domestic operations. Its subsidiary, Uno Mindarika Pvt Ltd (UMRPL), recently inaugurated a new plant in Farrukhnagar, Gurugram, Haryana. Phase 1 of this facility has already established manufacturing capabilities for automotive switch components.
The company plans to relocate its existing plant from Manesar, Haryana, to Farrukhnagar in Phase II of the expansion with an investment of ?120 crore. This phased relocation is expected to be completed by Q3 of FY27, ensuring uninterrupted supply to customers and providing flexibility for future growth.
Furthermore, Uno Minda is venturing into a new partnership to meet the increasing demand for safety systems in the automotive industry. The joint venture firm, Toyoda Gosei Minda India Pvt Ltd, along with its subsidiary Toyoda Gosei South India Pvt Ltd, will establish a new plant in Harohalli, Karnataka.
The Harohalli plant will focus on manufacturing safety systems like airbags and steering wheels, as well as interior and exterior products including console boxes. Considering the growing demand for these products, the estimated capital expenditure for this venture is ?283 crore. Operations at the Harohalli plant are expected to commence in Q1 of FY27.
The expansion plans announced by Uno Minda Ltd highlight the company’s commitment to meet the evolving demands of the automotive industry. Through its investments in Indonesia and India, the company aims to strengthen its market presence and further diversify its product portfolio.
