A triumphant, joyous moment for the whole of India, a big win by none other than the U19 Indian Women’s Cricket Team against England in the first-ever ICC match. England’s batting faltered again in a critical match, and India dismissed them for a dismal total of 69. Archana Devi, an off-spinner, and Titas Sadhu both bowled superbly to counter the team England early on. In the opening over, Titas Sadhu caught the effective Liberty Heap. The remaining bowlers contributed by consistently taking wickets, leaving England’s batting line defenceless.
Early on in India’s pursuit of a scant 69, Shafali Verman and Shweta Sehrawat became lost. However, G Trisha and Soumya Tiwari forged a potent coalition to win a great match and steer India home. India won the toss and decided to bat afterwards, which their bowlers more than justified by forcing England to bat. When England’s top order was reduced to 22/4 after six overs by the opening bowling combination of Titas Sadhu and Archana Devi, crucial batswoman Grace Scrivens was among those who fell. With just six runs and two wickets taken over her four uninterrupted overs, Sadhu was successful. Despite Devi being substantially more expensive, the crucial firings of Scrivens and Niamh Holland were included in her 2/17.
After a great win, the U19 Indian Women’s cricket team decided to bring along the ICC women’s World Cup T20 title. Albeit England made a hard comeback in front of Australia, the luck doesn’t charm twice, and henceforth our proof of reaching out to ICC Women’s World Cup 2023. So, India became the first to claim the first-ever ICC World Cup for a Women’s cricket team.
On this victorious and glorious moment, Charles Dagnall asked whether this was the only trophy Shafali Verma would lift this year, to which the sportswomen Shafali Verma replied, “No, the big one too’. This trophy has cleared a long-standing hurdle of not scoring well in the last matches, but the Shafali-Verma-led team proved it, yes, we are no less. This win will give a huge boost in the sports field to women, and this victory will give a great push to a desire to achieve even more.
