A lot has been speculated about the safest mode of tax payment in different states. Today, property tax payment is a compulsory duty and with several online pathways available, the process is easy these days. The Rajasthan government has opened up several portals to help property owners clear their tax bills. One such portal is e-Gras. This is an online portal powered by the Indian government. The portal is open throughout the day and night and can easily be accessed on all types of phones. The mobile version may not be advised in the initial stages. Here is a look at the step by step guide to paying land tax through this portal set up by the Rajasthan government.
Step 1 – Log In To Your Account
Your steps begin with logging in to the official website of e-Gras which is http://egras.raj.nic. This web page will prompt you to sign in on the right-hand side upper corner. You can use the link to register yourself on the portal. You will be required to fill in your name, gender, marital status, contact details, address, TIN/Vehicle number/Acct Number/Tax ID, and a security question that will ensure that your account stays safe. Unregistered users can easily do the same using guest as login id and password. However, this will give them limited access and once they finish the payment they will not be able to take a download or print out of the receipt or have a history of the transactions made.
Step 2 – Define your profile well
When you create a profile ensure that you select the budget head that is best applicable for your land and property valuation. The concerned department will be enlisted and you must select the correct department and the budget head under it.
Step 3 – Carefully Select The Department
The next step is to correctly select the department and ensure that you have selected the land tax department. In the e-Gras portal, Department 86 is what should be selected for land taxpayers. This is the Registration and Stamps Department which will help you ensure proper payment of your land tax in Rajasthan. The treasury code needs to be fed in at this point. Other details like bank name, amount, Government receipt number (GRN), and office name will also be required from you at this step. Make sure you have confirmed details close at hand while feeding them incorrectly during this step.
Step 4 – Fill E- Challan Details
The portal will then prompt you to submit these details. Once done, the process of challan creation begins. You will be needed to fill in the e-challan details one by one and be careful while doing so. Make sure you fill in the district, treasury, office name, year, budget head, name of the bank, Pin, address, remitter’s name, and amount type of payment. If there are any extra details to be filled up you must do so at this step and not leave any important or relevant field blank because this e-challan is your proof of payment and will process the payment and update records accordingly in the government records. If any relevant details or special records are not updated, you will be unable to justify the payment as per your patch of land, even after furnishing the e-challan or receipt. You can easily take a printout of this e-challan and make the payment manually at the bank branch.
Step 5 – Challan Finalization
The challan can be printed, viewed, and saved as a pdf for reference. The good part is you can make minor changes in the e-challan by pressing the button “Repeat”. Therefore, in case you make any mistake in the previous challan entry, you can edit the entries and easily correct them and a new and corrected final challan will be created as per your corrections. It will have both unique Ids like GRN and CIN which confirm the payment received from the payees or remitter’s account. It also has the bank name mentioned in it and is linked with the bank website.
The process is simple and having all relevant details handy will be able to help you keep the process under control. Remember, the payee can always take a printout and make a manual payment using the same challan and select the e-Gras bank details while making the payment.
Unique and Safe Transactions –
The e-Gras website is completely controlled by the government of India. It is well maintained and secure in terms of payment protocols. The transactions are also unique on this website owing to the very sure GRN, CIN, and Challan numbers which are recorded for a lifetime in the government records and cannot be replaced or edited once the payment is received. In the future, if you face any inquiry or have to answer questions about the payment status, you can simply quote the GRN and bank name to prompt the software or government records to showcase your payment transaction records. Ensure that your account is updated with the latest and correct information and does not have any incorrect entries. Keep changing your password from time to time and also this process keeps your account very secure and away from phishing or hacking harm. Never make the mistake of revealing your User ID or Password and do not try to make your transactions using a guest account since the records never get stored and you may have trouble in the future accessing the information.
