As per several reports, Godrej Properties is planning to buy the famous and hallowed RK Studios at Chembur. The Kapoor family had previously taken the decision to sell off this legendary studio that was once the vanguard of showman Raj Kapoor. Godrej Properties is reportedly in discussions with the Kapoor family for purchasing the studio which covers a whopping 2 acres or approximately 8, 239 square metres as per reports.
The prices for the studio could be anywhere between Rs. 170-190 crore according to market experts. The deal is reportedly in its final stages and Godrej Properties is very close towards acquiring this iconic land parcel in one of Mumbai’s fastest growing residential zones. A legal notice was previously published in major newspapers which stated that all entities, individuals and others having any claim/right to the RK Studios were required to get in touch with the mentioned legal firm with proper documentary evidence within a period of 14 days from the publication of the notice.
Randhir Kapoor, leading actor and director, has confirmed that the family has been negotiating the sale of the property with 3-4 people. He also stated that everything would be finalized in a month’s time. The main studio was gutted in a fire which also damaged invaluable memorabilia and artefacts from Raj Kapoor’s films. This catastrophe took place last year and soon after, the Kapoor family announced the sale of the studio located in Chembur.
It was first announced by Rishi Kapoor back in August 2018 that the family had finally decided towards selling the property. He had stated that the renovation of RK Studios would not garner desired revenues for keeping it going and hence the decision to sell had been taken by the family members. Godrej Properties is one of the country’s biggest real estate developers and already has prime projects in Chembur like Godrej Serenity and Godrej Prime. There are several other big-ticket projects in Chembur like Omkar Raga and Radius Central Park among many others.
