About Camp, Pune

camp Pune is the other name of “pune cantonment” located in the eastern part of pune. the camp is a developing area in the shadow of several military establishments stationed in the locality. punes importance in indias defense firmament is immense as the southern command of the indian army is headquartered here. every aspect of life in the camp has a distinctive military touch, as the pune cantonment board plays a significant role. the locality is interspersed with several well-planned housing projects. the most prominent are hermes palazzo, shastri apartments, gulmohar apartment, runwall, and geeta society.

the origin of camp in pune dates back to 1817 when it was established to accommodate the indian army troops. during its historical legacy of two hundred years, it has been home to several military installations like the iconic national war memorial to commemorate the indian armed forces soldiers sacrifice, besides the armed forces medical college.  the one and only national defence academy considered the stepping stone for the indian armed force officers is located near khadakwasla. the camp is also strategically located close to punes shopping mecca at mg road and east street. 

camp residents quickly access other parts of the city by road connectors, the prominent among them being colonel tarapore road, akluj - phule nagar road, sangamwadi road, and airport road. important destinations like pune station (3 km), shivajinagar station (8 km), and the Pune international Airport (11 km) are easily reached through these connectors. mumbai – highway is practically the lifeline of camp residents, connecting them to life-sustaining employment and trade hubs at the world trade center (11 km, hadapsar (6 km), and kharadi (8 km). the mumbai- pandharpur road connects the camp to the bhosari industrial area (19 km).
