Yes, NRIs can purchase residential and commercial property in India. However, they are not allowed to buy farmland, plantation property, or farmhouses. NRIs need anNRO/NRE/FCNR account for the purchase. In addition, they can get a home loan to purchase the property. However, NRIs must get a Notarised PoA assigned to an Indian Resident.
