Who pays stamp duty in a lease agreement?

Stamp duty is typically the responsibility of the lessee, or the person renting the property, in a lease agreement. The state government determines the amount of stamp duty to be paid, which is calculated as a percentage of the annual rent or the total rent payable over the term of the lease, whichever is greater.
