About Junnar, Pune

Junnar is situated in the Maharashtra state of India's Pune district. This city has a history that almost goes back to the first millennium. Legend has it that the famous Maratha King Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was born at the fort close to this city, Shivneri Fort. On January 9, 2018, the Maharashtra State Government designated Junnar City as the first tourist taluka of the Pune District. Due to its location on the trade route connecting some of India's western ports, the city has played a significant role in the trading and political hub over the past two millennia.

Junnar, which is tucked away in the Western Ghats' Sahyadri mountain ranges, is renowned for both its biodiversity and leopard population. The teak woodlands offer a unique perspective of this location. Dams like Manikdoh, Yedgaon on the Kukadi River, and Chilewadi on the Mandovi River give the rich nature a distinctive appearance. Along the banks of the Kukadi River are several noteworthy temples, including the Vigneshwara Temple.
