About Kasheli, Thane

Kasheli is a village in the small town of Bhiwandi, Thane district. It is located 26 meters above sea level in the picturesque Konkan countryside of Maharashtra, India. At 268 km from the state capital of Mumbai, it is approachable by both rail and roadways.

it is situated on the banks of Vasai creek, with a total population of 3432 as per the census 2020. A humid weather, sunny days and a tropical wet and dry climate, it is a typical Maharashtrian locality. The local language of Kasheli is Marathi, while other languages commonly spoken here are Sindhi, Gujarati, and Hindi.

What’s Great About Kasheli?

The word "Kasheli” has been taken from the history of ancient India, originally spelt as “Kaśeli,” which was the name of a village during the reign of King Bhoja II. History records the grant, by Bhoja II, of the village Kaśeli for providing food daily to twelve Brāhmaṇasa.

In modern times Kasheli is a comfortable, fast-growing residential locality preferred by working service-class families and individuals for affordable housing, a healthy lifestyle and its close proximity to the Mumbai-Nashik National Highway and Bhiwandi Road. The various employment hubs around Kasheli are Kolshet Industrial Area, Kailash Industrial Complex, TTC Industrial Area and MIDC Industrial Area.

What's Not Great About Kasheli?

Kasheli being a low-lying area in proximity to Vasai creek, faces water logging issues, especially during the peak monsoon season. Additionally, the metro station at Kasheli is still under construction for Orange Line 5, hence making it difficult to commute for commoners.

Due to the locality's proximity to industrial areas, the town does not have a lot of open spaces/parks for recreational activities.

Physical Infrastructure and Liveability Index

Kasheli has a steady bus service provided by the Thane municipal corporation. The closest town to Kasheli is Ratnagiri, and hence the nearest Ratnagiri Railway station is easily accessible by all. It takes 1 hour 10mins via the Eastern express highway to reach Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, which is 27.7 km away from the town.  

While the liveability index of the locality is average due to the lack of recreational activities in the town and its distance from the city of Mumbai. Other planned infrastructural developments that will lend impetus to this location include Metro line 5 (orange), which will connect Kasheli to other popular suburbs as part of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority.

How to Reach Kasheli?

There are two preferable modes of transportation to reach Kasheli, first by rail using the Bhiwandi Railway Station or Thane Railway Station. Second, by road using the following bus stops; Durgesh Park Stop and Bhiwandi Bypass Toll Naka Bus Station. However, the best way to get in and around the locality is via cabs, autorickshaws, local buses or two-wheelers.

Places To Visit in Kasheli

For someone fond of the Konkan region of India, Kasheli offers an unpopular and secluded destination for beach lovers, i.e. the Devaghali beach. It is a fish lovers' paradise.

Another famous tourist destination is the Kanakaditya Mandir, the temple of the sun god. The idol of Suryanarayana you see here is 800 years old. The tamrapat or copper plates carved with text carry written evidence that this temple is indeed ancient.

Locality Comparison

Kasheli is a versatile and well-developed locality in comparison to Kalher. Though both are located in the Thane district, Kasheli is easily accessible by road and rail.

Due to the locality's close proximity to the industrial area, the rent per square yard in the locality for warehouse/storage spaces is higher in comparison to Kalyan East/West.

Wrapping Up

Kasheli is a small village, developing at a fast pace. However, it's relatively unknown to those not staying in close proximity to the town. While places such as Thane and Kalyan have their own railway stations and bus stops, Kasheli lacks the same. Infrastructural and socio-cultural recreational activities, such as cinema halls, parks, etc., to keep the residents occupied are also quite minimal.
