Naidu Directs officials to Pursue 100% Central Funding
During a recent review meeting chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, officials were directed to expedite negotiations with the Central Government to secure 100% equity funding, enabling the swift completion of the projects within a four-year timeframe. The move aims to expedite the implementation of these endeavors, thereby facilitating enhanced connectivity and socioeconomic development in the region.
Status of Current Metro Rail Projects Assessed
In a briefing presented by AP Metro Rail Corporation APMRCL Managing Director N.P. Ramakrishna Reddy, it was highlighted that both Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada metro rail projects have already secured approval for their comprehensive Detailed Project Reports DPRs. Notably, the Chief Minister drew inspiration from a 2017 policy, which granted 100% equity funding for a Kolkata metro rail project at an estimated cost of ?8,565 crore.
Key Features and Benefits of the Proposed Metro Rail Network
Both metro projects, which are now central to the state’s infrastructure plans, will boast double-deck sections at several stretches, aiming to optimize space utilization while ensuring efficient connectivity for commuters. The Visakhapatnam metro rail project will feature double-deck sections from Madhurawada to Thatichetlapalem and from Gajuwaka to the steel plant, while the Vijayawada metro rail project will see a similar configuration from Ramavarappadu Ring to Nidamanuru.
