Bhiwani is a major residential zone in Mumbai that lies beyond Thane. The area is dotted with several affordable and mid range projects. Bhiwandi lies around 20 kilometres to Mumbai’s north-east and 15 kilometres to the north east of Thane as well. Intra-city buses are readily available in the area and a more reliable and widespread bus system is being planned by the Nizampur-Bhiwandi city Municipal Corporation while bus services are also provided by Thane Municipal Transport (TMT) here. There are several KDMT buses running here as well. Two flyovers have recently been developed on the NH-3 to ease traffic congestion and ensure smooth traffic movement. Bus services are available till areas like Wadala, Kalyan, Mumbai Central, Borivali, Thane, Vasai, Aurangabad, Nashik, Pune and Shirdi.The Bhiwandi Nizampur Road railway station is a part of the Vasai-Diwa railway corridor. There are plans to connect the Thane-Kalyan line through this railway station. Public transport facilities like Omni taxis and auto rickshaws are readily available in the area. The Airport lies approximately 40 kilometres away from the area while the JNPT Port is also well linked to it. The proposed International Airport at Navi Mumbai will be a little closer to Bhiwandi. The economy of the area is majorly driven by the power loom industry. Bhiwandi is also regarded as the richest city in the entire Thane district. There are several warehousing and godown based industries here. Property prices have increased by approximately 7.89% in the area as per Q3 2015 and average prices stand at around INR 6, 800 per sq. ft. here for the same period. Popular projects have come up in the area including Tata Amantra and many others. With more transport options mushrooming in the area and better social infrastructure, residential housing markets will take off in Bhiwandi. Property prices are still comparatively reasonable in the area.
