The Builder Association of India is a leading entity in the mainstream real estate sector of the country, performing several vital duties for its members and other industry stakeholders.
The Builder Association of India was established in 1941 with the guidance of the leading Brigadier C.V.S. Jackson from the Military Engineering Services, Pune. The entity comprises members belonging to developers and builders of real estate and other infrastructure, along with construction companies. The membership of the organization has increased to 20,000+ direct members throughout 200+ centres in India, starting from a humble tally of 250 members and 3 centres in total. Several regional associations also have affiliations to the BAI or Builder Association of India. This accounts for indirect membership of another 1,500 stakeholders.
The Builder Association of India is a renowned organization, representing construction, building, infrastructure, and development companies throughout the country. It has played a crucial role in integrating price variation clauses for contract agreements/documents of several works entities or authorities. It has also played a part in advocating a unified and standardized equitable document for contracts in case of works authorities. It is also the entity behind the creation of the National Institute of Construction Management and Research, which is also known as NICMAR and this has campuses at Delhi, Pune, and Hyderabad. It could become a deemed university in the near future as well. The entity has also initiated the OCCI or the Overseas Construction Council of India. This is called the PEPCI or Project Export Promotion Council of India at present. It has also collaborated with the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, for several projects and initiatives. It has given a platform for contractors and builders, especially in terms of safeguarding their business interests. It is also an affiliated organization of the International Federation of Asia and Western Pacific Contractors’ Association or the IFAWPCA. The latter also has affiliation to the CICA or the Confederation of International Contractors Association. It is an observer at Asian Development Bank meetings, while gaining representative status across various State and Central Government committees for labor regulations, taxation, environmental aspects, and many other aspects.
