A building inspector is an individual with the license and authority to undertake inspections of completed structures or residential buildings as per Government regulations or legal provisions.

Definition

A building inspector is an employee of the Government and appointed legally for inspecting completed residential buildings and structures, checking their adherence to building codes, laws, and safety/security regulations. The inspector will also check fire safety, wiring, HVAC, garages, roofs, foundations, plumbing and other equipment. The building inspector may order a shutdown on any project if it does not comply with the requisite standards. Inspectors may also examine structures in case of any damage due to a natural disasters, making sure that repairs and reconstruction are done in a proper manner. The inspector may evaluate the condition of any property for occupancy status, while also looking at environmental regulations, building height, and other aspects. Many inspectors have specializations in particular areas of development/real estate.

Building inspectors play a vital role in the Government authorization of any real estate project. They usually visit projects in phases in order to ascertain whether real estate projects are complying with the regulations or not.
