About Tala, Kolkata

In 1717, the Mughal emperor Farrukhsiyar offered the East India Company the authority to rent out 38 villages near their headquarters. Five villages were nestled across the Hooghly River in the present Howrah district. The remaining 33 villages are settled on the side facing Calcutta. The locality acquired these towns from Mir Jafar in 1758 and rearranged them as per Siraj-ud-daulah, the final independent Nawab of Bengal. Dihi Panchanna Gram was the collective name for multiple villages, and Tala was one of them. It was considered a sub-locality that extended beyond the Maratha Ditch.

Belgachia and Shyambazar are the settlements that were settled close to Tala. The Barrackpore Trunk Road is near Tala's western border, making connectivity seamless throughout the locality.
