Tiljala is a locality situated to th east of river Hooghly and houses one of the nine police stations of the South-Eastern division of Kolkata police. Tiljala, Kolkata is inhabited since the British East India Company obtained rights to collect rent from villages surrounding its settlement in 1717 from MugHAL Emporer Farrukhsiyar. Tiljala saw an influx of migrants from poverty-ridden and caste-ridden districts of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh in the late 18th and early 19th Centuries. The locality also houses a sizeable Hindu refugee from Bangladesh who migrated to India in 1971.

The locality wears a look of an old-settled community with very fundamental infrastructure, but developers recent interest will help improve them further.
